Billie Holiday records the Civil Rights song “Strange Fruit” a poem written by Abel Meeropool exposing American racism and lynching. Time Magazine designated Strange Fruit, written by Abel Meeropol and sung by Billie Holiday as the “Song of the 20th Century.”
