Sarah Vaughan American Jazz Singer is born.

Sarah Vaughan American jazz singer, recipient of a Grammy Award and the National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Award. She has been described by music critic Scott Yanow as having “one of the most wondrous voices of the 20th century.” (d. 1990)
