“I don’t run away from a challenge because I am afraid. Instead, I run toward it because the only way to escape fear is to trample it beneath your feet.” Nadia Comaneci

Nadia Comaneci becomes the first person in Olympic Games history to score a perfect 10 in gymnastics at the Summer Olympics

Nadia Comaneci is a Romanian former gymnast and a five-time Olympic gold medalist. Comăneci is the first gymnast to be awarded a perfect score of 10.0 at the Olympic Games, and then, at the same Games (1976, Montreal) she received six more perfect 10s as well as winning three gold medals. She won two more gold medals and attained two more perfect 10s at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow.

“A Sophisticate is a Perfect 10” by Sophisticate in the Suburbs™

Before female gymnastic legends and future legends such as   Mary Lou Retton, The Magnificant Seven, Shawn Johnson, The Fierce Five, Gabby Douglas, Simone Biles, and Laurie Hernandez graced the gymnastics arena there was  Nadia Comaneci.
Before Bo Derek graced the silver screen in “10” and established the definition of being a perfect 10 as having to do with a woman’s appearance, there was Nadia Comăneci. Nadia Comăneci determined perfection in 1976 at the Summer Olympics with her athletic ability.
Nadia Comăneci was the first person to achieve a perfect 10 score. The reference today is to a person, not a man, not a woman, not a Romanian, and not an American.  Rightly so, Nadia Comăneciwas a person first and foremost.  Secondly, she was was an athlete who achieved the impossible.
“Hard work has made it easy. That is my secret. That is why I win” Nadia Comaneci
The beauty of achieving the impossible or being the first is that in all instances, they didn’t seek glory. They sought to work hard and fulfill their dream and satisfy their ambition.
“I remember when I started to do the compulsory (routine on the uneven bars), I thought I did a pretty good routine but I didn’t think I did my perfect routine. I know I didn’t watch the scoreboard as I was already thinking about the balance beam after I finished.” Nadia Comăneci
When teaching the art of self-defense or let’s say breaking a piece of wood, to build strength of focus.  a martial artist teaches his students to go beyond the piece of wood. They train their students to imagine and focus so that they see their “fist” hitting the floor past the piece of wood. A Sophisticate focuses beyond the immediate to achieve the impossible.
To achieve the impossible, a Sophisticate focuses as a student of the martial arts. In all that she does, she is a martial artist who doesn’t have a limit. She trains her mind to imagine or thinks past her goal rather than focusing on it. Working hard to allow her to perform to the best of her ability, a Sophisticate does not focus on others. She competes with herself, not with others. (A Sophisticate doesn’t Compete).
Nadia Comănecidid not achieve a perfect 10 because she was beautiful.
“The 10 meant perfection, that elusive ideal that everyone chases. To see Comăneci achieve it was so momentous because though everyone knows it doesn’t exist, that doesn’t stop us from striving for it, whether in competition, the classroom or daily life.” (“40 Years after perfect 10, gymnast Nadia Comaneci remains an Olympic icon” by Nancy Armour USA TODAY Sports)
Yet, Nadia Comaneci merely worked hard and followed her passion. Making history was merely the icing on the cake.
To add to the perfection of her accomplishment, she had and still has the utmost humility .   “I did what I used to do every day in the gym. It’s not like overnight I’d done something to surprise myself,” she said (“40 Years after perfect 10, gymnast Nadia Comaneci remains an Olympic icon” by Nancy Armour USA TODAY Sports)
but because her handwork and talent   to show the world how a person can achieve the impossible. A Sophisticate is a perfect 10 not because she is has a flawless appearance or fashionable clothes. A “Perfect 10” has nothing to do with what she looks like on the outside but who she is on the inside.
A perfect 10 is  about the focus beyond the immediate to believe the impossible. To utilize passion to work hard for the achievement of the impossible.
In the end, a Sophisticate is a “Perfect 10” because it she has a flawless passion not a flawless body. ;D
