Lady Margaret Lucas Cavendish, Duchess of Newcastle-upon-Tyne was an English aristocrat, philosopher, poet, scientist, fiction-writer, and playwright during the 17th century. Her work is that it lays out an early and very compelling version of the naturalism that is found in current-day philosophy and science. (b. 1623 – d. December 15, 1673)
